For Reservations Call 907-617-1690As Dave's wife, I might be bias..but, our staff is the best! Our year-round crew is made up of 5 people that spend the fall, winter and spring seasons preparing for your fishing experience. When the summer season rolls around, our staff increases 7-fold. A couple of weeks before our first guest arrives, all 35 of us come together to plan, prepare and equip the lodge for unmatched hospitality.
Our dock staff, consisting of ten captains, four fish cutters and two dockhands, will care for your every need and safety while on the water, transferring your catch to land and ultimately filling your freezer. We have captains to fit every group. Ranging in age and experience, fishing styles and comedy routines, our eclectic group of captains are second to none and are committed to achieving your goals on the water.
At the end of your fishing day, you will be greeted at the dock by the Cut Crew and dockhands. These kids are a special bunch with a work ethic of past generations. The attention to detail and commitment to mainting your fish's quality will keep them fresh in your mind all winter long.
I’d be a miss if I didn’t mention the handful of family members that come to enjoy the unloading of the daily catch. Although not paid staffers yet. Many of our past guests have had the privilege of watching our Shelter Cove family grow year by year. Today’s tikes are tomorrow’s cutters and next week’s captains. Time flies and this group remind us that we’re getting old.
Our in-house staff are some of the most accommodating and friendly people you’ll meet. Serving you from the restaurant, we run a kitchen crew of about 10. Greeting you first thing in the morning, our breakfast crew may have the most demanding job of all. With their workday beginning at 3am every day of the summer, your guaranteed service with a smile and a hot cup of coffee.
In the afternoon, our bartender, servers, chefs and most importantly, dishwashers are committed to creating meaningful and delicious experiences at each meal. I’m always amazed by the personal touches they bring to the guests as well as the way they care for the crew’s bellies. We all eat well at Shelter Cove!
Although you may never see the behind-the-scenes crew, these are the people that keep the wheels turning. Our housekeepers, grounds keepers, drivers, dishwashers and maintenance crews, often work every day. Not only do they care for the guests of the current season, but they are usually leaving things better than they found them: Ensuring that next season’s guests will enjoy the lodge too. We have a lot of fun names for the various jobs that must be done, and these guys are always willing to pitch in to get the jobs done well. Many of our staff double into these positions: housekeepers are also dishwashers, fish cutters move freight, drivers fix boats and mow lawns.
If you've fished or stayed with us, it's likely you've already met Stacie. Stacie is our year-round go-to girl. Between her and Dave every detail of your trip will be planned out and communicated with you. With many years of experience, Stacie can answer questions and help you put together your Alaskan fishing adventure.
Dave and I feel incredibly blessed to work with each of our crew. Over the years our staff has become family. Many of the crew have been here since our kids were babies and most return to work each summer. Of the staff with 35 people only 5 were new to us last year and many have been with us for betwen 15 and 20 years.
We invite you to meet and interact with every person at Shelter Cove. We truly love and appreciate each one. Sincerely, Jen Creighton
